Lobby Decoration:
The lobby sets the mood for the
show. We are looking for creative, imaginative people who enjoy learning
about our shows. The lobby is your canvas. Use your imagination
to set the right mood for our productions. Work with a friend so
installation is a snap. Our lobby is set up before the preview
performance of each run and remains up until the last performance.
Approximate set-up time 2-3 hours depending on the complexity of your
design.

Backstage Captain:
No theater experience at all?
The Backstage Captain is a GREAT PLACE to start. You work with the
assistant stage manager to make sure everything runs smoothly backstage.
You will need to be at two rehearsals and then at each performance.
Performances only run for 3 weeks at a time and only on the weekends.
This is a GREAT WAY to learn about what goes on behind the scenes. We
need 1-2 people for each show in our 2008/2009 season.
Backstage Crew:
You know those people in black
who move furniture around between scenes or set props? Those are our
backstage crew people. This position requires no previous experience
-- we're more than happy to train you --and is very important to a
smooth-running show. The time commitment is minimal as you just need
to be at three rehearsals and then the performances. Performances are Thurs.
(first weekend only), Friday, Saturday and Sunday for only 3 weeks.
Prop Master:
Do you love thrift shops and garage sales?
Like trying to find that one-of-a kind specialty item? Then prop
master may be the job for you. Work with the director to secure all
props needed for the production.
Wardrobe:
Ever wonder how those actors and
actresses make such quick costume changes? Well, they don't do it alone.
There is an art to quick changes and wardrobe people are the ones backstage
who help. For some of our 2007-2008 season we are going to need some
great wardrobe help. We'll train you...Sewing experience is helpful,
but not necessary.
Hang/Focus Crew:
Are you an up-and-coming lighting
designer who would like more experience with hands-on hanging? Have
you had some experience in the past and could use a "refresher?" We can
always use one or two experienced lighting people to help with this
important task. Hang/Focus crew requires a few hours of work on tech
rehearsal days. Generally the show is hung/focused in one day.
Costume
Construction/Alteration:
Are you a theater lover who also
likes to sew? Have you been curious about what goes on in the creation
of our costumes you see on stage? We are looking for seamstresses to
help with alterations and/or costume construction to work with our costume
designer on our 2007/2008 season. Doesn't this sound like fun?
Concessions Manager:
You know the old adage..."only
40% of the cost of a production is covered by ticket sales..." Well, it's
true. That's why we rely on any additional means of income we can find.
We're looking for a creative concessions manager. Money to purchase items is
provided by DFT (upon initial approval). You can create the most
beautiful concession stand anywhere. Concessions Manager is
responsible for purchasing and display. Nightly operation of the concession
sales is handled by ushers at intermission and before and after the show.
The front-of-house coordinator is responsible for securing concession sales
staff.
Ushers/House
Manager/Concession Sales:
-
These front-of-house positions
are extremely important to Desert Foothills Theater. As ushers, you are
often the first face-to-face contact an audience member makes with us. Your
role is extremely important. In addition to taking tickets (which
helps our bookkeeping), you help people feel comfortable in the theater.
-
House Manager:
The house manager is responsible for overseeing all the ushers for the
evening and remaining in the lobby during the run of the show to make sure
all is well with our audience members, etc.
-
Concessions Sales:
Concession sales people work the concession table before the show, at
intermission and after the show. Ushers may assist with this job as
well.
Theater Management Volunteer
Positions
Theater Committees:
These subcommittees of the Desert
Foothills Steering Committee are looking for additional members. If
you are interested in any of these positions, please contact
Meribeth Reeves .
Marketing Committee:
This committee works to set the marketing vision of the organization and
oversee all advertising and PR.
Gecko Teatro Committee: This
committee oversees the activities of the Youth Education Program and works
to help implement Gecko Teatro programs. We are looking for volunteers who would like
to see the development of a GREAT children's theater program in the area. In
less than two years this program has grown to include nearly 100 students!
Fundraising Committee:
This committee oversees the fundraising activities of the theater.
Fundraising activities include our "Theatricales", and other events such
our annual tea, etc.
Artistic Committee:
This committee works to set the seasons programs. The Artistic
Committee has just completed its work for 2008-2009 and will be beginning
work on the 2009-2010 season. If you have always wanted to make
suggestions on new works; or have always wondered what goes in to making our
production decisions...this is the committee for you. This committee
is also responsible for producing the Oscar Night Celebration.
