Melissa Nelson (who has appeared in several Gecko
Teatro performances, and played Baby June in “Gypsy”
2007 for DFT) has organized this vocal concert with
12 very talented teens from around The Valley, to
raise money for the CCUSD music programs. The
concert promises to be a
‘Rockin’ Good Time
- showcasing some of the valley’s best trained
vocalist teens who will be sharing contemporary and
pop music while playing guitar, ukulele and piano.
They have come together with a mission:
to share their love for music in hopes of
increasing awareness in the community sgabout the
importance of music education for our youth.
The concert will take place on Saturday,
September 19 at El Pedregal.
The vision for this concert was borne while
Melissa (14) attended a leadership seminar in June,
where the participants were asked to make a
‘stretch-yourself-goal’ that they thought was big,
bold, and ‘close to impossible’ to reach. Well,
we say Go Melissa! She enamored
CC Jones Productions
during this summer’s
Hot Pipes
competition with her passion for music,
and he offered to produce her concert as an in-kind
donation to the cause. Thank you also to
The Boulders
who stepped up to the plate offering the
incredibly beautiful
el Pedregal outdoor concert venue for
free, PW²
who provided in-kind services for web design, and
the many local businesses who are providing raffle
items to create additional revenue for the benefit
concert.
“This is going to be AWESOME -
Rock the District is going to be a rockin' evening
to not only showcase young talent in our community
but also bring in needed dollars to our CCUSD music
programs. I hope the community will come out and
support this very special event!”
says Debbi Burdick, Superintendant of CCUSD.
