When fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill enters the dull lives of the people of River City he brings with him a colorful scheme to scam the residents by encouraging them to invest in musical instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen while he brings joy to her colorless life by curtain’s fall.
