Musical revue features some of

musical theater's best-loved songs...

Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein--the names are synonymous with some of musical theater's most loved musicals including The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Carousel, Oklahoma, Cinderella, The King and I and more!  And A Grand Night for Singing features some of the best-loved songs from these musicals.

Conceived Tony Award-winning Walter Robbie with musical arrangements by Fred Wells; A Grand Night for Singing took Broadway by storm when it made its debut more than 30 years after the last Rodgers & Hammerstein show The Sound of Music.  It received two Tony-Award nominations -- including one for Best Musical.

Taste and imagination, the two key ingredients for a first-rate revue, abound in this fresh take on the music of Rodgers & Hammerstein. Imagine "Shall We Dance?" as a comic pas de deux for a towering beauty and her diminutive admirer, or a lovelorn young lad asking the musical question, "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" But that's precisely the kind of invention lavished upon this new revue, with innovative musical arrangements including a sultry Andrews Sisters-esque "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-a My Hair" and a swingin' "Honeybun" worthy of the Modernaires. This Director’s showcase will delight audiences with goodtime musical fun!

Desert Foothills Theater's production is in great hands under the direction of Emmy Award-winning choreographer and director Dee Dee Wood.  Ms. Wood is intimately familiar with the work of Rodgers & Hammerstein as she choreographed The Sound of Music movie.  Yep! That sweetly sentimental love scene in the greenhouse was choreographed by her.  Ms. Woods has been an avid supporter of DFT through the years and the shows she has directed have been hits with our audiences.
