Gr. 7-12, Makeup for Theater
Makeup artist Jessica
Frieling introduces actors to the art of stage makeup.
In Makeup for Theatre 1 students learn the tools and tricks
of the stage. They learn to build their own personal
makeup kit, to apply basic stage makeup, to apply some
simple character makeup styles, important makeup safety and
hygiene and other skills. Students who complete this
class will be able to confidently apply their own basic
stage makeup and recreate makeup designs on their own faces
from looking at sample paper drawings. This class is
imperative to anyone with a serious interest in theater.
Makeup is important in character development and an actor
who understands and can competently apply their own stage
makeup has that much more control over their character
development.

Acting Up! I ~ Gr. K-2, Spring 2012
Session
Let’s start at the very
beginning… how do I tell a story using movement, voice and
facial expression? This introductory class is a great way to
begin your theater training. Our instructors are all
working theater professionals. With them you will learn the
words used in theatre, how to move on stage, how to create
physical characters, tell a story through movement and
action and much more. Even non-readers will learn basic
storytelling skills by being exposed to literary ideas like
the beginning, middle and end in storytelling, and
understanding exposition, narration and dialogue.
The class will culminate in a sharing of our
work-in-progress with family and friends. As you
will be part of a performing group and other students are
counting on you to be there for rehearsal, consistent class
attendance is a must. This class is developed
as a year-long course, however new students may enter at any
session. At least two sections of this class are required as

Music Together®, Mixed Ages
Classes
(ages newborn to 5 yrs.)
At DFT COPA we are often asked if we offer theater classes
for pre-school age students. Music Together® is a
great place for youngsters to start. In these classes they
learn
music, movement,
rhythm and other skills important in their theatre
development.
Music Together® classes provide
early childhood music development through singing, creative
movement and instrumental play. Strong parent-child
interaction enables each individual child's stage of
development to flower within the larger community. During
fall, winter and spring, the class materials for the Mixed
Ages Class are one of our nine song collections rotated over
three years. Class materials include 2 CDs (one for at
home and one for the car) and an illustrated songbook.
In
addition, New Families also receive a DVD introduction to
the Music Together program philosophy.
Music Together classes are provided by
Under One Common Sky.

Voice Class, Gr. 3-6 and Gr. 7-12
This voice class aims to help young singers
improve their capability, develop effective techniques, and
get pleasure from their voices while helping them feel more
comfortable singing in front of others. The class will
concentrate on practical performing experiences with an
emphasis on musical theater. The culminating project
will be individual student performances of a musical theater
song at the Workshop Showcase. Small class size makes
this the perfect choice for developing vocal skills for
young performers.
