A Message from the Chairman
of Desert Foothills Theater, Carol McDaniels

Welcome to the 31st season of Desert Foothills Theater. We are pleased to have you join us for the 2005-2006 season of musicals and comedy. These exciting productions continue to utilize the incredible talent we have in our community. They give not only their time, but also their love and passion to make your theater experience enjoyable.

This year Desert Foothills Theater welcomes Kevin Glenn as our Artistic Director. Kevin’s extreme talent and enthusiasm for the performing arts is evident in everything he does. Whether performing or directing Kevin ensures that the production is first rate. You will experience this first class quality in the productions of Into the Woods, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, and Forever Plaid.

DFT received fifteen ariZoni Award nominations for theater excellence in 2005, including Best Musical, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and also Best Play, Breaking Legs. This honor demonstrates the first class quality of theater provided by the dedicated team of artistic staff, technical staff, actors and volunteers who work tirelessly for your enjoyment.

DFT has added a full workshop schedule to give everyone the opportunity to learn the process behind the craft leading to a greater appreciation of professional theater. Fencing for the Stage, and Adult Acting are just two of the exciting and innovative workshops offered this season.

The theater’s Youth Education Program makes it possible for young people to develop their talents, self-esteem and confidence through workshops and hands-on experience. DFT awards scholarships each year to deserving high school seniors who are continuing their education and study in the performing arts. YEP exists to build strong collaborations with the communities we serve to nurture and engage the next generation of theater audiences and artists.

Thank you to the Foothills Community Foundation, our patrons, members, subscribers, advertisers, corporate sponsors, and especially our volunteers for their invaluable support. Your enthusiasm for Desert Foothills Theater will ensure our future as an important asset of the performing arts community.

Enjoy the show!

Warmest regards,
Carol McDaniels
Desert Foothills Theater Chairman

Kevin Glenn

Desert Foothills Theater Welcomes
Kevin Glenn as Artistic Director

Desert Foothills Theater welcomes Kevin Glenn in his first season as Artistic Director. Originally from the Jersey shore, Kevin spent many years in New York City where his career on the business side of the entertainment field blended readily with his artistic work. He studied music, theater, voice and dance in Manhattan and performed with theater companies throughout the region. He traveled the world as a featured entertainer on cruise ships before moving to Arizona in 2002.

Kevin served as musical director for Desert Foothills Theater’s productions of Grease, Footloose, Fame The Musical, and recently won an ariZoni Award for Theatre Excellence in Music Direction for his work in DFT’s The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Recent local acting credits include ship’s architect Thomas Andrews in Scottsdale Community Players’ production of Titanic; Sky Masterson in DFT’s Guys & Dolls; Will Rogers in Broadway Based on True Stories, a Herberger Theater Production; and the Monk/Singer in Southwest Shakespeare’s production of Cardenio. Kevin appeared as a featured performer in Desert Foothills Theater’s highly regarded production of Sweet & Hot: the Songs of Harold Arlen.

As a songwriter and composer, Kevin Glenn wrote the score for Alice, an original musical conceived and directed by C. Nicholas Johnson. Alice had its world premiere at Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center in 2004, followed in 2005 by the world premiere of Once Upon a Planet with the same collaboration. Both productions were produced by the Desert Foothills Community Education’s Artists in Residency program, in which Kevin and his wife Martha are active participants.

Kevin’s music is also featured in Quilters the Ballet, which was presented in March of 2005 at the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix. In addition to musicals and stage productions, Kevin has released a collection of songs on CD titled, See in Full, available at www.kevinglenn.com. Kevin regards his position as Artistic Director at Desert Foothills Theater as a natural progression of his business career in the arts blended with his experience as a performer and his creativity as a composer.
